was founded in 1986 by Michael and Sondra Hickman.

In the mid 80’s Sondra had successfully established and operated a word processing business, SH Associates. Michael and Sondra realized they had compatible skills and business goals that would blend well in the business environment. Michael left the advertising/print company he had been managing to devote his design and printing expertise full time toward their venture.

ET&D’s original business plan was to provide high quality service and product in the typesetting industry. As “desktop publishing” started to take hold, they became one of the first companies in Arizona to utilize desktop computing and software to produce text books and business directories. ET&D was a pioneer in database publishing and file conversions from main frame databases for use in publishing.

As technology progressed and dedicated typesetting became obsolete, Electronic Type & Design turned its experience and resources to computerized graphics, page layout and imagesetting. ET&D will continue to learn, adapt and change with the fast pace of changing technology.
